Officers Cycle from Florida to NYC in 9/11 tribute
NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — Thirty-eight emergency service workers from across the nation will be cycling from Naples to New York City to pay tribute to Sept. 11 victims.
The Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/qFEMbD ) reports that firefighters, police officers and others will begin the trek Saturday. They will wear red, white and blue jerseys carrying the names of 411 emergency workers who died at the World Trade Center.
Those participating in the 1,600-mile Brotherhood Ride will ride for 22 days, whether they encounter rain or a blistering summer sun. They’ll sleep on air mattresses at Elk’s Lodge spots instead of staying at hotels.
A support staff will accompany them in trucks and SUVs, and police or fire agencies will provide escort through every town and county.
